The socks are done, the pattern is done, the photos are done... just waiting on feedback from my test knitter. Yay!

Pattern Development

Have been working on my pattern and knitting between finishing up all the holiday items and baking. Just need to find the time to finish up and transfer the notes to a pattern format. There just are not enough hours in the day ;-) I most likely will only finish one sock in its entirity, that or some will not get their gifts.

I got my yarn yesterday and I love it! Vermilion in Instant Gratification and I am diving right in, especially since I have been planning this for a month or more :)

First Sock Design Contest Winners and Second Sock Pattern Contest Info

Finally, the news you've all been waiting for -- the announcement of the first Hill Country Yarns Sock Pattern Contest!!!

As you know, back in March, we launched our first Hill Country Yarns Sock Pattern Contest and every single submission we received was incredible. Our judges had an extremely hard time narrowing down the winners to only one winner per yarn type, but narrow it down they did. Without further ado, the winners of the first Hill Country Yarns Sock Pattern Contest are:

• First place (winner of $100 worth of Hill Country Yarns): Holly Oshesky -- Sweet Pea Socks
• Second place (winner of $50 worth of Hill Country Yarns): Tyler Macek -- Vineyard Lace Socks

Wow!

Well, we have received a total of 10 submissions for the sock contest (so far) and there isn't a bad one in the bunch! For those of you who have not yet submitted your pattern, you still have one day left to get your patterns in. Thank you all for investing so much time into designing such beautiful sock patterns. The judges job will not be an easy one, but they are already reviewing the submissions and will have the winners posted on this site on or before August 31st.

I sent in my pattern. Am I supposed to get a confermation email or something?

Well, Pattern is done. Socks are done. I am IN LOVE with them, though they are NOT what I originally planned. I think that the fact of the matter is they are what they WANTED to be. I am SO PLEASED with the stitch definition on the Instant Gratification Yarn! And I am knitting a bit tightly on size 4s but they are beautiful and HOT FUSCIA!!!!!

Photo session tomorrow as long as the sun holds out. I didn't get home in time today so it is just waiting for that. And lucky me - my neighbor thinks it is funny when I take pics with her flowers - and they are the perfect color...here is a sneak peak at the bottom of the sock just so you can see how GREAT the color looks!!!

Those flowers are much more pink, but the beautiful Fuscia makes them look so much more orange!!!

Winding Up

Hello sock knitters! This is your "last call" to send your sock pattern submissions in to us. The submission deadline is June 30th, 2007. We have received several submissions but are waiting for the rest of you to send in your designs. Please email your submissions (including a photo of the finished sock, your tested pattern, and any charts required) to sales@hillcountryyarns.com. The winner(s) will be posted right here on or before August 31st, 2007.

We are delighted with the number of contestants we had for our first sock contest and expect even more contestants with each new contest we hold. At this time we plan to sponsor (at least) one sock pattern design contest each year, so start planning your next designs now!

Socks finished

I received the finished socks from my test knitter. The pattern is done. All I have to do is take pictures of the socks.

Still working on 'em

Design has been nailed down after working through stitch pattern combinations on two other socks. Now it's time to knit these out and take some purty pictures!

I'm loving this Instant Gratification yarn. It's gonna make a warm one.

I posted this once before but I didn't see it show up. I emailed my pattern to sales@hillcountryyarns.com. They did receive it.

socks for the contest

My testers are basically done test knitting my pattern. I will be ready to take a picture of the socks over the weekend.

What I want to know and still have not seen addressed is this, are we e-mailing the pattern with photo of socks? Or, are we mailing (via US mail) the pattern and the actual socks?

To what e-mail address are we sending it if we are supposed to be sending them that way.

If we are supposed to be sending them via US mail to what address are we sending them.

All that is left is the crying...well ok the pictures. I am not crying over the fantastic yarn I got to knit my socks with. I did want to make sure of how we are to turn these items in. Did I miss where we actually send our entires?

So I have been knitting on everything BUT these socks. *sigh* but I have been knitting socks just to hone my sock skillz. So I use that as my excuse. Anyway, looking forward to getting into these. I have them planned out already, so it is just a matter of knitting them, writing the pattern and having a friend test knit the pattern. weeeeee!

Where to send the pattern

I am still working on my pattern, but I have been looking for the information on where to send the pattern and pictures once we have completed everything. I can't seem to find this information. Will this be posted sometime soon?

Pattern

While I/we have not started knitting with the yarn yet, I have busy working on the pattern. It is almost ready to be tried on some other yarn first to make sure we like how the design is going to look. When we get that down, then we will knit the socks with the real yarn.

Wound it off last night. The color is so spring-time! I am excited to get started on my pattern.

My yarn came today!!!! Came today!!! The yarn fairy visted the house and left some Instant Gratification in Hot Fuscia. It is as bright and pink as I had hoped. I LOOOOOVE it.

The color wasn't what I had expected so I sent them an e-mail, and they were good about exchanging it.
I changed my mind since Sweet Feet looks too good to wait for the right color. Dusty Pink it is! I'll post a pic asap.

It's just lovely (I actually got it a couple of days ago but haven't had time to post until now). I thought I had my design all ready to go, but now that I've got the yarn, I know it calls for something completely different than I had in mind. Not sure exactly what, but it's definitely speaking to me.

My yarn was waiting for me when I got home last night, so thanks. I didn't realize the solids were actually slightly varigated, but I love it!
